Many people talk about a huge idea called “Greater Israel.”

This dream comes from old stories in the Bible.

It would mean Israel controls a giant piece of land all the way from the Nile River in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Iraq.

However, right now, in 2026, this big dream is not going to happen anytime soon.

It is mostly just words and ideas, not a real plan that leaders are ready to make happen today.

Even the strong voices in Israel’s far-right government, like ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, talk about it as something far in the future.

They do not have steps ready to grab all that land from other countries like Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, or Egypt.

Doing that would start huge wars with neighbors, make the whole world turn against Israel, and cause big problems inside Israel itself.

It would be too much trouble for now.

What “Greater Israel” Really Means Today

These days, when leaders and people talk about “Greater Israel,” they usually mean something smaller but still very important.

They want Israel to have full control over the West Bank, the area Israel calls Judea and Samaria.

This is the land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.

Sometimes they also talk about Gaza, but not as much.

In 2025, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clearly stated that he strongly supports this idea.

His government is working hard right now to make sure Israel stays in charge of this land in real ways, even if they do not say “we own it forever” out loud yet.

What Is Actually Happening On The Ground Right Now

As of right now, in March 2026, Israel is moving fast to take more control over the West Bank in quiet steps.

This is what experts call “creeping annexation” or “quiet takeover.”

In February 2026, the Israeli government made big decisions in a cabinet meeting.

They began registering land again in a special area called Area C, which accounts for about 60 percent of the West Bank.

Before, it was hard to do this because of the rules from past agreements.

Now, by registering the land, Israel can more easily say “this is state land” and then build more Jewish settlements there or give it to settlers.

This means new houses for Jewish families are going up faster.

Settlers are getting more power to run things in the area.

America Says No: The United States, Israel’s closest friend, is against it. President Donald Trump has said many times that he will not let Israel officially take over the West Bank. He worries it will hurt America’s help to Israel and stop big peace deals, like getting Saudi Arabia to make friends with Israel. Without America’s okay, Israel knows it could lose money, weapons, and protection.
The Whole World Is Angry: Almost 20 countries, including the European Union, Arab nations, and the United Nations, have said these new steps violate international rules. They call it illegal. This means Israel could face punishments like less trade, boycotts, or trouble at world meetings. No country wants to be alone against everyone else.
Israel’s Own People Are Split: Jewish people in Israel do not all agree. Some polls show that between 30 percent and 68 percent support taking full control of the West Bank. However, most say they want only strong security – like keeping soldiers there – not the risky step of making it official Israeli land forever. Moreover, when it comes to taking over Gaza and putting lots of settlers there, most Israelis say no. They worry about the danger and the cost.
Real-Life Problems Are Huge: If Israel tried to add millions more Palestinians into the country, it would change everything.
